Save the sea turtles!

I don’t know if y’all have heard about this, but I have been following it and am just thankful that it is hopefully being put to a stop now. As part of BP’s “efforts” to contain the oil spill, they have been using “controlled burns” where the oil is contained by a fire resistant boom that is dragged through the water by shrimp boats and then lit on fire. Umm HELLO! You would have to be an idiot to think that the devastation caused to the marine life would be minimal. Endangered sea turtles such as the Kemp’s ridley, which is one of the rarest sea turtles on the whole Earth, get caught in the oil and are unable to escape when the oil is then set ablaze, basically burning these beautiful creatures alive. Thank the Lord that several big animal protection groups were successful the other day in their case against BP by showing that BP’s course of action was obviously in violation of the Endangered Species Act, and that there has to be a better way. Now scientists from both parties will work together to determine the best protocol for ensuring no endangered sea turtles will be killed during the practices. The new protocol will be announced for public comment ASAP so that it can be finalized and put in to action immediately. You can read about it here and here.
