We had a wonderful Christmas this year! Christmas is always a special holiday for our family, but Asher Wade made it even more special this year. It’s just so fun and magical to see it through the eyes of a child. I know with each year he will get more and more in to it, but even still, at 20 months, he knew there was something going on around him. Bless his heart…for the past two mornings he’s come running out of his room as soon as he gets up, heading straight to the tree to see if there are more presents underneath. Obviously he hasn’t realized that Santa only comes once a year;)
Here are some (ok, a lot) of the pictures we took over the past few days….
After breakfast on the morning of Christmas Eve (and a little catching up on some FoxNews….#republicanAW) we headed to the mall for some last minute shopping and decided to visit Santa one more time, just to make sure he knew where we lived and all.
That night we headed to our church for a fabulous Christmas Eve service. We’ve been going to the annual Christmas service for the past six years, but this was by far the best one yet. So blessed to be a part of our church! It was really special having my parents with us this year too.
When we got home, we let Asher Wade open one present…just like my brother and I always did when we were growing up!
After he finally went to bed at 9 (he was seriously so excited….he NEVER cares to stay up much past 7:30), we got busy playing Santa. So.much.fun.
Christmas morning! He was a little timid and overwhelmed at first, but warmed up pretty fast. Went for the play vacuum first thing. This child is obsessed with cleaning. Hope that sticks.
We enjoyed a yummy Christmas supper that afternoon….ham, mashed potatoes, mashed sweet potatoes, cornbread dressing, broccoli casserole, corn pudding, green beans, banana croquettes, cranberries and rolls. Still enjoying leftovers!
Then we headed outside to let AW try out his new Radio Flyer trike that Granberry and Grandbob got him.
Christmas night we headed to the Festival of Lights at Oak Mountain State Park. Talk about a perfect night to go. After trying a few other nights, and turning right back around due to the ridiculously long line, it was a relief to see that there was hardly anyone there and we zipped right in.
I posted the below picture on Instagram before going to bed that night. After a busy day it was nice to just relax and reflect on our many blessings, that only exist because of what happened over two thousand years ago, with the birth of baby, who although in appearance seemed no different from you and me, had a responsibility greater than any of us could ever imagine. With all the busyness and chaos that sometimes overtakes the holiday season, I hope we can teach Asher Wade the true reason for the season. The presents, food, decorations, lights, holiday activities and fun are all really great, and I loved every minute, but it was in this moment that I just realized how incredibly fortunate we are. Not because of the material things we have, but because of the intangible things we have…love, joy, peace, health and salvation. My heart is so full, and I pray yours is too.
